When we say, “church is a verb” we mean it.

To gather goes beyond assembling for worship. We gather our best gifts to strengthen our community.

At Gather you never know what to expect but you know it will be good. You’re always welcome in our house!

What is Gather?

We are a new Christian community coming to life in the Austin-Oak Park area of Chicago. With the New Testament church as our model, we are authentically Pentecostal, based on the prophecy spoken by St. Peter at the Day of Pentecost: “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh” (Acts 2:17). Because we believe “all” means all, we strive to be:

  • Ecstatically inclusive
  • Theologically progressive
  • Socially committed
  • Scripturally sound
  • Spiritually adventurous

Why “Gather”?

When we say, “church is a verb” we mean it. To gather goes beyond assembling for worship. We gather our best gifts to strengthen our community. We gather around our struggles, knowing God stands with us. We gather new understanding and wisdom as we study, worship, and support one another in the faith.

What’s the plan?

Gather’s approach to community follows its philosophy of faith formation. We begin everything with prayerful attention to the Word, believing that’s where wisdom and guidance are found. We move to Work that responds to the claims placed upon us as followers of Jesus. Finally, our attention turns to Worship, as that is the rightful celebration of any people whose faith is grounded in the Word and animated in their Work.
